Have you ever needed some motivation to get you out the door and the road? Or even worse, on the treadmill? Well, here are some of my all-time favorite quotes, songs and tidbits of information that help me get out the door when I much rather sit on the couch and watch DVR'd episodes of Girl Code (or I don't know, DO ANYTHING OTHER THAN RUN).
"I loved the feeling of freedom in running, the fresh air, the feeling that the only person I'm competing with is me." Wilma Rudolph
"I run because if I didn’t, I’d be sluggish and glum and spend too much time on the couch. I run to breathe the fresh air. I run to explore. I run to escape the ordinary. I run…to savor the trip along the way. Life becomes a little more vibrant, a little more intense. I like that." Dean Karnazes
“Progress is rarely a straight line. There are always bumps in the road, but you can make the choice to keep looking ahead." Kara Goucher (one of my FAV runners. She rocks.)
"Leave your watch on the kitchen table and go -- freely, like a child." Claire Kowalchik
Timber -- Pitbull
Okay, okay. You either love this song or hate it and I LOVE IT. It's my jam. It always gets my super pumped and I want to sing it at the top of my lungs. So turn this bad boy on, crank it up and dance around your living room while singing into a hairbrush. It's okay. We've all done it before.
All hail, Queen Bey.
Black Betty -- Ram Jam
Wop -- J. Dash.
Ignition (remix, duh) -- R. Kelly
Can’t Hold Us -- Macklemore
Survivor -- Destiney’s Child
Hell Yeah -- Rev Theory
& a billion more. Find something that pumps you up, put it in a playlist and get out the door! Music can make your run more fun, so find whatever works for YOU.
Some of the worst songs to have stuck in your held while running:
What Does The Fox Say? -- Eaves
This song is dreadful. The song is even more dreadful when it’s stuck in your head every step of five miles.
Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE Christmas and Christmas song, but when it’s 90 degrees outside and I’m running up hills with gnats surrounding me, winter wonderland is the last thing I want to be thinking about.
You have to walk the length of one football field to burn off the calories you gain from eating ONE M&M.
More than 1 billion pairs of running shoes are sold world-wide each year.
Athletes dressed in red are more likely to win events than athletes wearing any other color.
It takes about 9 minutes of running, 20 minutes of yoga or 38 minutes of shopping to burn 100 calories.
